Infographics Are So Hot Right Now

It's unlikely that you've had any kind of involvement in web design in the past year or so without hearing about the importance of infographics. Put simply, an infographic is a method of representing data visually. But pie charts and bar graphs just aren't cutting it anymore. People want there data represented in an innovative way.

Where most people fail isn't in the infographic itself, it's in the promotion. Simply making an infographic and buying the best web hosting account won't bring you fame. After all, Google is almost useless at detecting information in a visual format. To get your infographic out there, you will need to take advantage of social media.

To begin with, you'll need to place it in a blog post that uses all the same terms. How else will the search engines have any idea what it's about? Use the same SEO practices that you would use to promote any other post, but take it a step further. Reach out to the social networks and share the infographic.

Before even posting the infographic, it may be a good idea to contact relevant bloggers. Offer them a preview and the chance to collaborate with you.

Make sure that your infographic uses credible sources and makes it clear what those sources are. Nobody will take you seriously if they don't trust the information source. Speaking of trustworthy sources, if you are editing from locations on the fly, you may want to use a trusted cloud computing resources that are reliable enough that you know your data is secure.

If it is possible to break up your infographic into several different parts, do so. Submit these segments separately to several different sites, such as flickr, and link back to your original blog post. A couple weeks later, upload the entire infographic to these image sharing sites and link back to your site again. In addition to flicker, there are several sites designed specifically for sharing infographics.

Use social bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit, and Delicious. Don't just share your own infographics, share other infographics, and share your infographics with some of the most influential users in those communities. This can be one of the most effective ways to get your information out there.

Another option is to use an email marketing campaign. Market using this method to your subscribers only. Include a segment of the infographic in the emails.

Ultimately, the key to grabbing attention with an infographic is not only to make it visually appealing and informative, but to make it available.
